Great array of items! I went for Pho soup fixings and ramen. They have live blue crabs and fresh fish. They had everything really! They had an individual frozen section for hot pot meats and seafood. The attached restaurant has take out only.

I am very pleased to find this location of Mr. Chen's does as well as the other location. I remember seeing this location popping up on Greensprings but much larger with the inclusion of a marketplace. I haven't tried the market yet; maybe if I get really adventurous later, but I can attest to the restaurant. I had early said that Mr. Chen's in Hoover is the best Chinese food in Birmingham, and this place lives up to the name! You have a wide selection of food, reasonable prices (real bargains at lunchtime) and an unmistakable taste! I love the General Tso's chicken here, as well as the house fried rice! Portions are generous and prepared in a timely manner. I can't wait to actually eat inside here instead of taking it to go once we are cleared to do so! I may even try my own hand at cooking at home from the market; it won't be as great as the restaurant, though.

I have eaten at Mr. Chen's on Green Springs, the one in Hoover and the one in Tuscaloosa, but if I had to pick, the one in Hoover is my favorite. When it comes to authentic Asian cuisine, I would say all of the Mr. Chen's restaurants provide quality food and I consider them my first choice, but the difference in the restaurants is the service. At the Hoover location, which is my usual go-to, the service is excellent. Your order is correct, no items are forgotten and the food comes out in a timely manner. The couple of times I have visited the Mr. Chen's on Green Springs we have had to wait longer for our food. Also, just the other night my son and my husband's plates were mixed up when the food came out. We didn't realize until another waiter came and explained the situation. Also, when we ordered steam buns were told that there would be a wait, which we were fine with, but we never received the food. We had to ask about the order and then ask for it to be taken off our bill. The Mr. Chen's on Green Springs is conveniently located next to the Asian Supermarket, which in my opinion, makes it better than the Hoover location. Also, the restaurant seems bigger, however, I'm not sure sizewise if it actually is. Also, there is plenty of parking and their food quality is always top-notched.

An authentic Asian food gem in Homewood that's definitely worth checking out if you're into Azn foods and the like. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is bc I've tried like one thing from the menu and the type of white rice they serve is not my fave. I've been here a few times and always ordered the same dish because it's made so well and I'm pretty sure I can't get it anywhere else in this city (but I guess I haven't looked that hard either idk). The spicy intestines in hot pot is truly one of the best things I've eaten out in my time here the past year. The dish is filled with other goodies that I think most asian restaurants around town probably don't have. Give it a try if you're feeling adventurous beyond the typical Kung pao chicken. I usually get it with a veggie-- highly recommend the Chinese broccoli or sweet pea leaves (the portions are pretty darn big and worth the money). There's a ton of seating and the service is friendly (could also be because we speak Chinese but I'm not complaining). It's connected to the largest asian supermarket in the state (at least that's what the internet told me) and the food brings me so much comfort and familiarity. Def def check out!

I was a "regular" at Mr. Chens in Tuscaloosa going at least once every two weeks if not more at times. Ever since moving away I hadn't been in about two years or so. When I walked in I was thoroughly impressed with the vast amount of groceries and different food, drinks, etc I have never seen in my entire life. The restaurant is staffed with some of the friendliest waiters/waitresses around that are always making sure you are well taken care of! We went for lunch and ordered the General Tsao Chicken which is my go to, and also decided to try the Honey Chicken.... what a great choice. The Honey Chicken was extraordinarily good with a nice honey sauce and perfectly cooked chicken. This also comes with egg drop or hot and sour soup, an egg roll, and steamed or fried rice. For $6.95 there is no better value or taste for the money. If you love Asian food I highly suggest giving this Mr. Chens a shot!

Been going to Mr.Chen's forever and somehow never thought to do a review. It's definitely time. We will start with the market side. It's big for Birmingham, much bigger than any other Asian stores around here as far as I know. I have been going since they opened and I think I still haven't walked through the entire store LOL. I look for what I need and I get out...but what says a lot is that I can't recall even once when they didn't have what I was looking for! On to the restaurant side. Not everyone will like everything they have to offer, but everyone will find something they like! We usually get one meat (varies), one veggie (varies), and one tofu (usually Tofu with Crispy Bean) dish. We almost always get the small steamed bun. Now if you eat duck and have not yet ordered their duck dish yet...you are missing out!!
